11 Jul 2015: No-Dig Garden Royong @ Dignity

11 July 2015

No-Dig Garden Royong @ Dignity

Learn how to build a garden without a cangkul!

Join us for a hands-on workshop to build a perennial kitchen garden in one day together with kids from the Dignity community, where everyone will learn about how to grow their own food at the same time.

SESSION A: 7:30am – 11:30am
facilitated by Eats, Shoots & Roots

Part 1. Building Raised Beds
Learn about soil fertility while at the same time build raised no-dig gardens using waste from their kitchens and their neighbourhoods.

Part 2. Planting and Propagating Edibles
Learn how to plant and propagate via seed, seedling and cuttings during this planting session where they will fill out the beds they have built. They will also learn how to choose plants that grow easily in their garden.

Part 3. Composting
In addition to building and planting, composting is an essential part of being able to sustain the garden. There will be a basic introduction of how to compost using the compost bins provided.

SESSION B: 3pm – 7pm
facilitated by Ng Seksan

Learn how to build a stone wall at the garden, to keep the roaming cows away from munching the veggie beds. Many volunteers needed for this one, so come for a workout in the garden!
