ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
This 2-day masterclass provides you the science & technical knowledge about: the properties of soils & what makes them fertile or healthy, maintaining or improving soil fertility for your plants & trees, diagnosing & mitigating common plant problems.
Please bring your own notebook and stationery for notes taking. Also dress suitable for outdoor gardening work.
THIS WORKSHOP WILL ALSO COVER
You will also have a hands-on practice on the following:
• Different types of soil media & their preparation
• How to make compost
• Interpreting soil test results
• Fertilizer calculation
• Preparing a wick irrigation
ABOUT THE FACILITATORS
Dr Christopher Teh is a senior lecturer at Universiti Putra Malaysia (Serdang campus at Selangor). His field of expertise is in crop modelling, environmental biophysics, and soil conservation. Learn more about his work at:
Dr Tan Ngai Paing holds a PhD degree in Agricultural Science. He specializes in understanding the nutrient dynamics in soil and plant system.
His research focuses on the effective use of plant nutrients for plant growth especially in oil palm trees. Evaluates the effectiveness of different fertilizers and identifying plants with better nutrient uptake ability.
At UPM, he covers courses such as Fundamentals of Soils Science, Principles of Sustainable Agriculture, and Sustainable Soils Management.
